Construction spending rises in February

Construction spending during February 2012 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $808.9 billion, 5.8 percent above the February 2011 estimate of $764.2 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported. However, the February figure is 1.1 percent below the revised January estimate of $818.1 billion.

During the first two months of this year, construction spending amounted to $111.3 billion, 7.4 percent above the $103.7 billion for the same period in 2011.

Spending on construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $246.5 billion in February, nearly the same as the revised January estimate of $246.4 billion.

Building permits, housing starts rise in December

Building permits for single-family homes rose 1.8 percent in December to a rate of 444,000 units compared with November, according to a joint release by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development.  Single-family housing starts rose 4.1 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 657,000.

An estimated 611,900 housing units were authorized by building permits in 2011. This is 1.2 percent above the 2010 figure of 604,600.  Approximately 606,900 housing units were started in 2011. This is 3.4 percent above the 2010 figure of 586,900.

Housing starts rise in October

Single-family housing starts increased 3.9 percent in October to 430,000 units compared with September’s figure of 414,000, the U.S. Census Bureau and Dept. of Housing and Urban Development announced last week.

Building permits, housing starts decline in April

Building permits for single-family homes declined 1.8 percent in April to a rate of 385,000 compared with March’s figure of 392,000, the U.S. Census Bureau reported this week.

Single-family housing starts declined 5.1 percent in April to a rate of 394,000 compared with the revised March figure of 415,000.

Single-family housing completions rose 14.4 percent in April to a rate of 420,000.

Building permits rise 2.1 percent in June.

Building permits for privately owned housing units rose 2.1 percent in June to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 586,000 units, the U.S. Census Bureau and U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced Tuesday.  On a year-over-year basis, building permits for privately owned housing units declined 2.8 percent.  Housing starts for single-family homes declined 0.7 percent in June to a rate of 454,000 units from 457,000 units in May.
